KERRY GRIFFIN
T E A C H I N G / D I R E C T I N G
Kerry has been teaching and directing a variety of improv, sketch and other productions around Toronto for over 15 years.
As a teacher Kerry is a faculty member at the Second City training centre in Toronto, in both their basic and conservatory level programs. He has also taught for the Bad Dog Theatre Company, Social Capital Comedy and at improv festivals in Orlando, New York, Boston, Belgium and Amsterdam.
Bringing his years of performing experience to the classroom, Kerry has helped develop a generation of improv talent in the Toronto community.
As well as teaching, Kerry has directed several improv and sketch shows around Toronto. Beginning at the Bad Dog Theatre at its original Danforth Ave. location, Kerry directed Theatresports, Stars Warz and several other audience favourites.
From there Kerry began directing shows at the Second City in Toronto, starting with their Holiday show in 2010. Since then, Kerry has directed five critically acclaimed Second City mainstage reviews including Dreams Really Do Come True…and Other Lies, The Meme-ing of Life, and We Can Be Heroes.
At the 2015 Toronto Fringe Festival Kerry directed both 'People Suck' - a musical exploration of how people, well, suck - and 'Regicide' a sketch show featuring recent graduates of Second City's Conservatory program - played to sold out shows, and both won Patron's Pick at their respective venues.
People Suck also won Best of Fringe and the Ed Mirvish Award for Entrepreneurship
Kerry has also directed several Second City shows for ships on the Norwegian Cruise Line and recently spent three weeks directing improv shows in Tokyo, Japan for the Second City and the Yoshimoto Corporation.
"Kerry is an ideal director. Not only did he help us craft top notch, critically acclaimed shows,
he was also, in what I consider a highly stressful process, cool as a Fonzie cucumber."
- Matthew Reid (Musical Director, Second City Toronto)
Being taught and directed by Kerry as part of The Second City Conservatory Program was one
of the most rewarding experiences of my life, he really gets how to put together a good show,
how to bring out the best in people on stage, and he's just a cool dude to be around.
